Women claim their Magna Carta rights

As part of Dove’s 10th year anniversary line-up of activities in 2010, Dove joined hands with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and the City of Taguig to kick-off the annual Women’s Month celebration at the Fort Bonifacio Global City on March 1, 2010.

Over 5,000 women participated in this historic affair that highlighted the recent enactment of the Magna Carta of Women’s Rights into the Philippine law. The whole-day event started off with a Walk for Women’s Rights, a 30-minute march on a designated route around Fort Bonifacio lead by ten Dove ambassadors – women of beauty and substance who epitomize Dove’s platform for 2010: “Dove at Ten: Totally Beautiful.” These women include: Philippine Sports Commissioner Akiko Thomson, stage performer Pinky Marquez, educator Nicole Fonacier, model and writer Raya Mananquil, fashion photographer Sara Black, DJ and radio host Pia Magalona, retail heiress Marielle Santos-Po, peace advocate Timmy Cruz, socialite Susan Campos, and events and image consultant Chiqui Hollmann-Yulo.

The march was followed by a program which was hosted by the dynamic Tessa Prieto-Valdes with Pinky Marquez co-hosting alongside her. The ever gracious first lady of Taguig, Kaye Tinga, got onstage to welcome the crowd which included contingents from the various government agencies, NGOs, colleges and universities, LGUs, and private organizations. Unilever Philippines’ Managing Director for Health and Beauty, Gilbert Simpao then spoke about Dove’s continuing advocacy to help women see real beauty in themselves, no matter what shape, size, or color they may be. Also present to show their support and share their messages regarding the Magna Carta of Women’s Rights were DOH Secretary Esperanza Cabral, DSWD Acting Secretary Celia Yangco, and PCW Commissioner Apolonia Tolentino.

After the program, women were invited to the NBC Tent for a mini fair which had various booths catering to women’s health, beauty, wellness and livelihood. Dove set up a product demo booth and offered massage treatments with takeaway Dove beauty bars and deos. Pascualab gave out samples of their natural medications. Anlene conducted bone screening tests. Other exhibitors included Natasha Goulbourn Foundation, Brahma Kumaris, Nurture Spa and Century Tuna, among others. Women were also offered free counseling and legal services as well as NSO civil registry services.

Looking back at a decade of real beauty in the Philippines, Dove has consistently promoted positive self-image through campaigns that trained the spotlight on issues important to real women. From its new-millennium opener Dove Moments to Dove’s Bukod Tanging Pilipina, to the internationally- acclaimed Campaign for Real Beauty, Dove’s battle cry through the years has stayed true to its advocacy: to encourage women to accept, celebrate and nurture how beautiful they truly are, just as they are.

John Lloyd’s Ingat Ka Moments

The moment the trailer of Miss You Like Crazy was shown on the television, I immediately got a call from my mom getting me to say yes before she even said the favor she wanted for me to do. She wants me to go to the movies with her to see another John Lloyd flick. It has always been like this every time a movie with John Lloyd in it would be shown in theatres. Little does my mama know that I can be as “bakya” as her when it comes to John Lloyd movies.

I find John Lloyd to be a real good actor. And he gets better at his craft over the years and I could not be more thrilled to watch this movie where he reunites with Bea Alonzo. Interestingly, he endorses the same headache and fever reliever that we have been using for years – Biogesic.

Biogesic has been like the default brand for Paracetamol for our family. I love that I can take it on an empty stomach unlike all other brands. It is also the same brand that I have my son take during the occasional times that he would develop a fever. My personal opinion is that Biogesic couldn’t have gotten a better endorser. John Lloyd and Ingat are what comes to mind nowadays when a Biogesic ad comes up. He is that effective.

To those who have been patronizing my reloading services for Smart and Globe, thank you very much. Some of you pay via PayPal (which is uber cool) and some pay me when we meet up, whenever, while some pay via bank deposit. As long as we each keep list of the accumulated reloadings we have, then that’s fine with me. The proceeds of this little business goes straight to the educational funds of our son.

And now that my network is expanding, I decided to get a Sun Retailer account too. For those who have been requesting for one, here it is! It is super fine that we are able to transact in this manner, not having to go through some Symbol LS2208 like we would on a regular store. Technology rocks! Attention dear patrons: for sun load requests, you know the drill.

Should we get a PS3?

Our Wii is more than a year old and we love how it is this one console that does not get the player/s zombified. This is very reason why it took us so long before we bought a game console. Wii actually encourages interaction and bonding within the family and we loved our bonding times while playing with it.

Now that everyone seems to be raving about the playstation 3 Rock Band, we are contemplating on purchasing one. I am not fully convinced just yet. But with all the potential of fun and bonding times with family, friends and even with our church family, it can be pretty interesting. But it is still going to be a major purchase, given that we are currently saving up for something huge. This again, is something we have to pray about before we move.

Sentimental much

Earlier this week as I was sorting through stuff in containers: one container to give away, one container to sell in my online store and another container for the trash. You might have thought that the typhoon Ondoy has done this for me. But hear ye! Hear ye! I still have more sentimental stuff I hold on too. And this week I decided to just let most of them go.

One thing that I saw that got me realizing that I’m sentimental were these wedding napkins I have kept from my friends’ special days. They have gone from immaculate white, pretty florals to dirty yellow and much as I would have loved to keep them, they were just gonna accumulate more dust than memories. So off they went. As for the other stuff, I’m giving away a whole lot away. It is what we hope to keep going in our family. That whenever we receive blessings, great or small, we take away stuff from our things and choose what we could bless others with.

Workout fail

If there is anything I keep failing myself about lately, it is getting down to being fit. As I currently type this entry, my feet are sitting pretty on my figure trimmer disc. I still haven’t gotten myself to a regular workout. I barely have time!

I figured regardless of the kind of exercise gadget I get myself, this figure trimmer or dip station that I just saw over the television, unless I get myself to actually make time for a workout – it is never gonna happen.

My son is graduating soon!

After his first graduation rehearsal and now having memorized two of the songs (with actions) that he will perform with the other graduates, I cannot be more thrilled to watch him go to the stage and graduate. Schedule has been crazy. Homeschooling in the morning, article writing in the afternoon and my virtual assistant job in the evenings, plus I also cover events here and there – I hardly have time for myself!

When my son graduates next month, the first thing I’m going to do is go check with a well recommended Plano cosmetic dentist who is here for a few months. I need to get some job done on my teeth soon.

Please pray for Jonathan Louis

Jeff’s 5 month old nephew, Jonathan Louis has a hole in his heart and will undergo operation after lunch today. We were told that the operation should take around 4 to 5 hours. The hubby and I visited the family at the Philippine Heart Center yesterday and we are hopeful that Jonathan Louis’ little heart will respond positively to the surgery.

It was a blessing that the family can very well afford the surgery and do not need one of those short term health insurance NC. It would have been extra stressful if they have financial troubles as well. The price of these kinds of surgery are pretty steep, counting to the millions.

Please include this little baby in your prayers. He is currently being prepped for his surgery.

Me time this weekend (?)

Me time is something that I have not done in quite a while. Yes, I am pretty busy working on our major project and as much as I hope to rest a while, I have a deadline that I have kind of set for it to be accomplished. Of course all of it, I have prayed about.

One thing I hope to do this weekend is to go visit the salon and get a quick trim. After getting my hair rebonded November last year, I have not had a trim yet. And we all know what rebonding does to hair. If it wasn’t for my hair’s current favorite trio treatments from L’Oreal, I’m sure it is a lot worse. So here’s hoping that my plan for a me time this weekend will push through.
